I am so disappointed...In Louisville we get no Beatrips and no Backwards in my opinion the 2 best tribute bands to ever play here. I have never missed an AROTR and will still come this year with my son and friends. At lest we have Jukebox!

Editor: we will miss them too, but international travel for Beatles tribute bands (or other bands for that matter) is not always possible. Meanwhile there are 50 or so incredible bands to delight us.

In February 1964 the Beatles arrived at LaGuardia airport in New York City with a number one record,to a screaming throng of Beatlemaniacs. They proceeded to launch one of the most exciting periods in music history. The 1960’s British Invasion of America!.

From 1964 through 1969, 38 different songs by British Invasion performers graced the #1 position in the US Billboard Top 100 charts, and it all began on February 9, 1964 on the Ed Sullivan Show. An estimated 70 Million Americans were tuned in to CBS that night.

The Beatles began the musical invasion of America: Feb 9, Feb. 17th, and Feb. 23rd, 1964……

London’s Dave Clark 5 followed quickly behind the Beatles and appeared on the March 8th, and March 15th 1964 show. They would appear 17 times on the Sullivan Show over the years. Next on April 5th were the Searchers, May 10th it was Gerry & the Pacemakers, May 24th the Beatles again (on film), May 31, Gerry again, June 7th it was Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas, You get the picture!

The UnionJack British Invasion Band will be celebrating the British Invasion on the Sullivan Show at Abbey Road on the River in Louisville, KY at our Friday afternoon Show at 2:00 PM in the Archibald Ballroom! Songs from the Sullivan Show appearances of the Beatles, DC5, Searchers, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Rolling Stones, Animals, Hermits, and many others! We are looking forward to seeing all of you in May at Louisville! And again in Washington DC in September!

THE BEAT!radicals
Hartenfels
Germany
March 25, 2010 4:58am
THE BEAT!radicals are happy to come to America.

THE BEAT!radicals are:
Chris - LEAD GUITAR (sometimes he plays a solo on his back!); backing vocals
Mario - BASS; backing vocals
Tino - DRUMS; backing vocals
Peter - RHYTHM GUITAR, HARP, KAZOO & NOSE-FLUTE

THE BEAT!radicals Have Prepared A Small Quiz for the Visitors of AROTR . . . The BEAT!-contest

Imagine?? What Ever Gets You Through the Night?? Working Class Hero?? Band on the Run?? Mull of Kintyre?? Live and Let Die?? My Sweet Lord?? All Things Must Pass?? I Got My Mind Set on You?? Sweet Sixteen?? Photograph?? ……….?? ………..? …?

The Question Is: Which Song of Each of the Beatles As Solo Artists (After 1970) Will They Play At AROTR? The Winners Who Can Name the Songs Will Get A Present From the Band.

THE BEAT!radicals from Germany are not A Pure Beatles Tribute Band. But they are already very excited to visit the US and “Abbey Road on the River” for the First Time. While Peter, Chris, Tino and Mario are proud to play for the American folks they feel a little bit uneasy if the AROTR audience will like a band that is “only” a beat band…

The Guys Around Peter Seel, Founder of THE BEAT!radicals (As Well As Lucy in the Sky) are currently working on 4 new Beatles songs, specially for their US shows and for AROTR. The four “beat prophets" from Germany have chosen one song of each of the Beatles as solo artists (after the year 1970). Thus, they want to bow to the people of this great Beatles festival. Peter had a special idea: let’s start a little contest for the visitors of AROTR!

The quiz question is: Which song of each Beatles ex-member will the THE BEAT!radicals play at the festival? It must be one (each ex-Beatle) of the most popular songs of the post Beatles era… (little help: it is not “Imagine” by John and it is not “My Sweet Lord” by George and it is not “Band on the Run” by Paul)

The one of you who posts the correct answer into the guest book on THE BEAT!radicals website (three of the four songs will suffice) gets a present from the band: 2 band shirts, 2 stickers, 2 lighters and one of our first CDs! The one who will guess two of the four songs gets 1 band shirt, 2 stickers and a lighter of the band – including some post cards with autographs.

Please go to the band website www.thebeatlive.de click on the german word gästebuch (it means guest book) to do the quiz. Then click the first green word ( eintragen ) on the top of the page. Write some greeting from your country and tell us your answer…

THE BEAT!radicals will play six concerts at the Galt House in Louisville. The four musicians have a bit of the jitters – and would like to hear additional opinions from the guests that will visit the festival in May. On www.thebeatlive.de you can click the button “Friends from the USA click here” and read some news about the band. We made this link just for our us friends. Feel free to post some lines into our guest book. Do you like bands like the Kinks, the Rolling Stones? The Who? What about Tom Petty? Joe Jackson? Little Richard? Chuck Berry? The Knack? Is Green Day too far away from beat music… ? We would be very happy to read some greetings from the other side of the big pond

Please visit also www.myspace.com/thebeatradicals to listen to some song samples and watch performance videos.

THE BEAT!radicals are very busy practicing. “We want to play some great shows for our American friends in Louisville”, says Peter. With his other band, “Lucy in the Sky”, he has been to Kentucky three times. With “Lucy” he will be part of the new AROTR festival in Washington D.C. in September.

But first THE BEAT!radicals will enjoy the spirit of the Beatles in May – the greatest band in the world! And we hope that our “radical history of beat music – from Elvis to Green Day” will find a big audience! Many greetings from Germany!

The Beat Goes On!

Some said it couldn't really be happening; that it was just publicity. And the fabulous Beatles proved them wrong. Others said they couldn't last more than a month or two; that nobody could hang on to that kind of fame. The Beatles, of course proved them wrong too. Then when their first movie was released, and even the critics liked it, people began to wonder if all those Beatle fans hadn't relly discovered something after all...That is from the back of the "Beatles '65 album..fast forward some 45 years later...what do you all think? Have all those Beatles fans discovered something after all?
I cant wait till AROTR...see you in May.

2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Terry Sylvester of The Hollies to Headline... -- LOUISVILLE www.prnewswire.com
2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Terry Sylvester of The Hollies to Headline World's Largest Beatles Festival.

Let Him Be, a new thriller/mystery/fantasy feature film starring Mark Staycer as an older "what if" John Lennon look a like (you be the judge) ponders the question if had he lived into his 60's, hmmmmm ; will premiere at Abbey Road On The River in May.

A huge congratulations to Terry Sylvester, about to become a member of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow night in NYC. This is no little deal. Terry joins Elvis, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, James Brown, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan, and of course The Beatles as a rock immortal. See and meet Terry at Abbey Road on the River - Louisville.

Just back from an amazing week in DC; what a kick it is planning both events; losing my mind and religion, but it is really fun. (grown up old man working fun)

Jason Zucker, AROTR permanent video guru, VH 1 producer, and number 5 nephew is off to Haiti next week to lend his eye and hand. He turns 25 on the 22nd, leaves for Haiti on the 28th, (after he completes our new AROTR commercial.) Last night he shot the Rock Hall induction; he interviewed among others Phil Collins, Maroon 5, and Iggy Pop. Not bad for a kid who started at Abbey Road On The River, when he was 16. If you have a spare sawbuck, donate it to his Haiti fund linked below..otherwise just wish him godspeed.

A warm and loving greeting to our AROTR Family.
Joe here. On behalf of The Cryers and Terry Sylvester, I want to let you all know how excited we are to be seeing you all again soon. The Cryers have had quite an adventure since we last saw each other. Gigs, of course, recording our new CD, running our music school, The Monmouth Academy of Musical Arts and of course, just surviving in these tough times is a great challenge. As you know, our Terry was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and we are all so happy for Terry and the rest of The Hollies for the honor they so richly deserve. I want to take this opportunity to thank Gary and the AROTR staff for all they have done to promote this great music and of course for creating the greatest music festival in the world!
There have been struggles for all of us. This gathering is one of the most joyful events ever.
We have a fabulous hard rocking program of Beatles (of course), Hollies, other great British Invasion bands and our Summer of Love music for you this year!
We can't wait to hit the stage!!
As always,
Sending love to all of you...

Today brings news of a lineup/schedule change; We are very pleased to announce Chicago's BritBeat with old friend James Paul Lynch as John will be at AROTR from Thursday thru Sunday. While we are very very happy we were able to contract with BritBeat, we have decided not to finalize details with The Blue Meanies from Liverpool for Louisville. We hope with more time to work through travel arrangements, we can bring The Blue Meanies to DC in September. Sometimes, we have to make decisions that keep us awake; this was one of them. But, we know, in the end, that BritBeat will soar at AROTR. And, to The Blue Meanies, we wish you great success wherever you perform.

Greetings fellow AROTRers:

This is Juan Carlos from The Jukebox out of sunny Puerto Rico. Looking forward to our return to AROTR.

Calling all JBX fans and friends in the USofA! Paul McCartney is coming to Puerto Rico for a concert on April 5. A group of fans created a group in facebook.com supporting the idea of us as opening act for Macca's concert in PR.

If you feel like joining and supporting this noble cause look for the group "We want The Jukebox to open up Paul McCartney's concert in Puerto Rico!!" in facebook.com

It maybe just a dream, but John once said: "A dream you dream alone is just a dream, a dream you dream together is reality."

See ya all on May!!

With only 90 days now to the 9th annual Abbey Road On The River, it is non-stop planning for us.

First and foremost, we are so pleased to announce that local ABC affiliate WHAS 11 has joined the AROTR family as our new title sponsor.

The event will now be called WHAS 11 Abbey Road On The River.

Onward and upward, toppermost of the poppermost or something like that, we do want to acknowledge and thank The Courier Journal and Courier-Journal.com for three years of amazing support. They stepped in when we really needed them to keep the event viable, and it has been a perfect partnership.

Things change in all businesses, and this year we both decided while we want to keep working together, and we will, it was time to change the main sponsorship.

And, getting WHAS to fill that slot is a great honor for us. They were founded by the same family who founded the Courier Journal and have a long and accomplished record of journalistic integrity, quality programming, charitable service, and consistently participating in the Loiuisville community.

So, thank you CJ, and thank you WHAS 11....and thanks to all of our great fans.

To Katie from South Euclid --

This is a toddler year for us. Our Alice will be about 20 months then, and I'm sure she'd love to meet Collin. You can't miss us: we're the ones with four girls running around (they'll be 9, 6, and 4 then). Did you bring baby Collin last year, or was that one of the 2 you missed? Either way, you'll find that AROTR w/ toddler is much different than w/ baby or w/o kids. Scheduling around naps is a bit harder, or making midnight shows together, but it's all worth it to see your kiddo dance and say "Ringo!" the first time.

Hoping to make lots of new friends this year too. If anyone else is planning on coming with a toddler then let me know and maybe we can meet up for a playdate on the lawn! :D

Peace and Love,
Katie

Hi, its Denise D. from Northern Illinois....I am soooo pleased that so many of my favorites are back again this year, along with many favorites that couldnt make it last year. I plan on going to both Louisville and D.C. Again, thank you so much Gary, and all the wonderful people who "Come Together" every year to make this amazing event happen. I look forward to seeing all the great musical talent, as well as the many many dear friends I've made over the years. See you all in May....

Pleased to announce the signing today of two new bands; first Meet The Beetles from Chicago, a really cool looking and sounding replica band whose George is Jim Hondros from the Yellow Submorons; very excited to have them, they are really good; 2nd a young trio from the U of I, Evansville called Blue Jay Way. Their lead singer is going to join the upper ranks of great female leads, more and more every year finding their way to AROTR.

Hi, it´s me, Peter, of Lucy in the Sky (which will meet you in Washington DC this year)

With my other band, The BEAT!radicals, I will be coming to Louisville in May and I can tell you: We are so happy that Gary has invited us and that we can be part of this great festival! We can´t wait to present our "radical" history of Beat music and meet Beatles-people

Lots of love and peace to all

Peter

Gary and crew, I was excited this morning to see The Blue Meanies added to the AROTR list for this May. I have seen them in Liverpool and I am sure they will be a huge hit in Louisville. I am not familiar with The Tearaways but will look forward to their perfomances also. It has been unusually cold in the Florida the last couple of weeks and you can be sure that AROTR can not come to soon. Richard

Last year I had my doubts about the fun I would have at AROTR without my favorute band, "The Return." I talked with them and they had other things going on. Disappointed, I decided to take my best Beatlemaniac friend and head to Louisville! Let me tell you who are doubtful, I had a blast!!!! We met new friends, The Beafore, and reconnected with bands like Lucy in the Sky!! I feel as long as the bands are playing Beatles' music and fans are singing and dancing, what could be better? Thank you, Gary and staff; this event will always be on my calendar. In fact, I just got a new job and informed them that I MUST be in Louisville at the end of every May. I cannot wait.

I am delighted to here about the Blue Meanies appearing at the event!
When I was in Liverpool 2 years ago a watched them on the main stage and they where awesom!
I have to say that this band has everything!
The songs they sing live the Beatles coulndt play this good, and that says it all.
The John and Paul (Jimmy and Tony, I think?) are fantastic but when you have a drummer who does a Ringo (Stewart) that if you closed your eyes it was him then this band has it all.
Check out Octopus's Garden and Boys this guy is out of this world.
I can't wait now and having this band on makes it the best festival in the World, well done!!!

We saw The Blue Meanies in Liverpool about 6 years ago the night before Macca played at Albert Dock. They are vintage 63-65 with some Johnny Boy attitude too.Excellent
Pete Conrad, thanks mate but unlikely as we are going to Finland in 10 days for a Beatle Happening featuring a great Finnish band we met in Liverpool at Beatles Week. This stuff is going on everywhere boys and girls

I am very pleased to announce the premier appearance at Abbey Road On The River of The Blue Meanies. They are native Liverpudlians and are England's best look a like and sound a like tribute band. They feature the Coburn brothers as John and Paul and are "in my opinion" one of the very best, if not best sounding young ...Paul and John in the biz. When one door closes, we open another...check them out..you will be blown away

From The "Tomorrow May Rain So I'll Follow The Sun Department". Dear gjake......your job is stressful enough, although a labor of Love. You have first-time visitors posting how excited they are to attend and they don't know ONE Band yet! I'm almost embarrassed to admit I have not yet been to Beatle week in Liverpool but all my friends have. That is why I appreciate your bands from other countries such as The Backwards and Beat Trips, Repeatles, etc. But I WON'T EVER not attend because a certain band isn't (and trust me I have my favorites). "Some have gone,,and some remain...." For whatever reason. And it is YOUR Business, Career and Life, and you bend every which way to not disappoint. Hitting, 9 AROTR's I wouldn't sweat this,, now please,,,(though "I Got A Feeling"),, get it over with and announce the other highly looked forward to Band, that has "dis"banded! There will be some gasps, but nobody "tops the bill" at this event so I'm sure another great Beatle performance will arise! See y'all in the Sunshine!

From the, "it don't come easy", department. We just learned The Backwards have decided not to come to AROTR this year. And, I'm sorry to say, at least one other act you all were looking forward to seeing this year has joined a new band and is now doubtful. And from the "what me worry" department, every time we lose an act, we find another opportunity, even more Fabtastic.

First slightly nice weather in a while her in missouri (finally above freezing!). The "warm" weather reminded me how close we are to AROTR 2010! After seeing Ringo on TV last night, i'm a little more than excited!

AROTR staffer Jason Zucker met with Ringo yesterday at VH1 headquarters; click the link to see a photo, and if you have a photo of yourself with a Beatle, please send it to us, and we will add it to the "Pictured with a real Beatle", page

I took a picture of the back of Ringo's head, but I guess that doesn't count.
